DIY Perfume

Did you know that you can create your own personal all-natural fragrance using doTERRA essential oils and a few household ingredients? Try this pleasing DIY floral perfume spray! 

You’ll need: 

10 drops Whisper
10 drops Citrus Bliss
10 drops Lemon oil
5 drops Ylang Ylang oil
1 tablespoon witch hazel
¼ cup water
Small glass spray bottle

To make: 

Add the witch hazel and water into your spray bottle and shake to mix. Add your essential oils and shake again. Your perfume will last one to two weeks. Refrigerating your fragrance can make it last longer. 

Feel free to experiment with other oil combinations to make your own personal scent!

Fall Potpourri

When Fall rolls around, most of us head right to the Apple Spice or Cinnamon for our go-to air freshner. Step out of your comfort zone this season with this sophisticated all-natural potpourri! 

You’ll need:

Orange peels
Dried apple slices
Cinnamon sticks
Bay leaves
Vanilla sticks
doTERRA On Guard
doTERRA Ginger
doTERRA Cinnamon Bark

To make:

Put all of your ingredients into a bowl or container. Add 3-5 drops of essential oils to the top of your potpourri. Freshen it up with a few drops of oils as needed if scent fades.

OnGuard Pumpkin Smoothie

It isn’t quite cool enough for hot cocoa, but as the temperatures drop we can’t help but get the Fall feels! Try this delicious and immune-supporting pumpkin smoothie!

You’ll need: 

1 cup almond milk (or whatever milk you prefer)
½ cup pumpkin puree
½ cup vanilla yogurt
2 frozen bananas
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie seasoning
2–3 drops doTERRA On Guard® Protective Blend
1 cup ice

To make: 

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend until mixture is smooth. Feelin’ fancy? Top your smoothie with whipped cream and just a touch of cinnamon. YUM!!!

Back to School Focus

Like adults, children sometimes have trouble focusing. For one reason or another, our brains just simply refuse to do what it needs to do so that we can complete tasks. Luckily, there are a few things we can do to give the ol’ noggin a hand.

Create a routine – Do you kids need a little break after school before they can focus on homework? Give them a set period of time for either playing outside simply kicking back before they dive back into the books.

Reduce distraction – Some people can’t focus in a messy environment. Others need complete silence. TV and mobile devices can also create a “noisy” atmosphere. Help your child figure out what works for them and create a space that will help them focus and do what they need to do.

Incorporate essential oils – Teachers have actually began utilizing doTERRA essential oils and diffusers in their classrooms. Eucalyptus oil has been found to help clear the mind during exams. Douglas Fir oil can help increase focus. Something about Spearmint oil has been proven to invigorate the mind. Lavender oil is handy to help create a calming environment.

Take a cue from your children’s teachers and set up a diffuser in their workspace. You never know until you give it a go!

Sleep Like Babies

Summer is over, folks! Kids are back in school and it’s time for the whole family to get back into a set routine. Sometimes this is easier said than done. One of the toughest parts about going back to school is reestablishing a bedtime. 

Sleep has a huge impact on our health. Inadequate sleep causes changes to ghrelin and leptin, the hormones that regulate the body’s energy balance. Even the slightest sleep deprivation (or a night of crummy sleep) can affect our mood, ability to focus, etc. According to studies, twenty-one percent of adults reported experiencing more stress when they didn’t get adequate sleep. Our children can experience the same stress when they don’t get adequate sleep. 

To help get your family back on track, try the following:

Establish a consistent schedule – Have everyone get up at the same time and go to bed at the same time daily, including weekends. Letting kids stay up late on Friday or Saturday may seem harmless, but it can throw them off for the following school week. 

Have a bedtime routine – Doing something like taking a bath or reading a book before bed can help calm the mind and get the body in the mood for a good night’s rest. 

Mix in essential oils – Products like doTERRA Serenity, a blend of essential oils renowned for their ability to lessen feelings of tension and calm emotions, can support a restful sleep when used aromatically. Applying doTERRA Lavender oil to the soles of our feet can also help encourage some zzzzz’s.

Summer Foot Scrub

Our feet can get wrecked during the warm Summer months. The warm air can dry out our skin and walking around barefoot can leave our feet rough and calloused. Try this luxurious homemade doTERRA foot scrub to pamper your tired and rough feet. Your toes will be sandal-ready in no time!

You’ll need:

  • ½ – ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ – ½ cup epsom salt
  • 1 cup oil such as fractionated coconut, olive, jojoba, or sunflower oil
  • 8 – 16 drops of doTERRA essential oils (possible combinations include lavender and peppermint, rosemary and peppermint, bergamot and sandalwood, and bergamot and ylang ylang)

To make:

Mix sugar, epsom salt, and your choice of oil until well blended. Add essential oils, alternating oils one at a time if you’re using a combination. Ensure ingredients are mixed well. Transfer mixture to an airtight container for storage. Use as needed to treat your feet!

Aromatherapy Slime

As most parent’s know by now, slime can be very therapeutic to play with. It’s kind of like a gooier, stickier stress ball. Take the mellow up a notch by adding essential oils!

What you need:

  • 1/2 cup Elmer’s white glue
  • 1/2 teaspoon Borax or baking soda and water (activator)
  • 1 cup of hot water, divided
  • Purple food coloring
  • doTERRA Lavender essential oil
  • Small bowl for mixing

To make:

  • Combine a 1/2 cup of glue with 1/2 cup of hot water and mix well.
  • Add a few drops of purple coloring and mix until evenly combined.
  • Add 3 drops of doTERRA Lavender essential oil
  • Mix a 1/2 teaspoon of borax into remaining 1/2 cup of hot water.  Stir until the borax is mostly dissolved.
  • Pour the Borax water (or baking soda) into purple glue mixture and stir
  • Need slime until well combined
