Real Estate and Essential Oils

These days, you can do just about anything with essential oils. You can cook with them, clean with them, and make your own beauty products. Did you know essential oils are also becoming a big player in the real estate game?

In addition to how a home looks, how a home smells can have a huge impact on the showing experience. Stale odors make the home come across as old. Pet smells can translate to the need for new carpet. Overpowering air-fresheners can allude to cheapness. The fresh, clean aromas of essential oils can rid a home of musty smells and create a positive experience for the potential buyer.

After purging, cleaning, and staging, close the deal with doTERRA essential oils. Here are a few universally appealing options perfect for getting your home sold!

doTERRA Lemon – Lemon is clean, fresh, and energizing. This is a great scent to have going in the main areas of the home such as the kitchen and living area.

doTERRA Lavender – Bedrooms should feel and smell like calm retreats where buyers can imagine themselves relaxing at the end of the day. For an extra punch of luxury, blend 2 drops of doTERRA Rosemary and 4 drops of doTERRA Lavender.

doTERRA Eucalyptus – Even the simplest of bathrooms can become spas with a few elegant accessories and the refreshing scent of eucalyptus oil. Add a few white towels, a peace lily, and voila!

Scents On the Brain

Does the smell of fresh-baked bread remind you of cozy afternoons in your grandmother’s kitchen? Or perhaps the smell of car exhaust causes your heart to pound as you associate it with the stress of gridlock traffic. That’s no coincidence. Our sense of smell is 10,000 times more sensitive than any of our other senses. Crazy, right? Here’s how it works.

Like taste, smell is a chemical sense. Appropriately named, chemical senses detect chemicals in the environment. Basically, chemicals floating in the air reach the nostril and dissolve into the mucus. Beneath the mucus, the olfactory receptor neurons detect the scent and transmit that information to the olfactory bulbs located in the back of the nose. The sensory receptors there are the part of the brain that send messages to the part of the brain that influences emotions and memories (limbic system) and the center that modifies conscious thought (neo-cortex). In layman terms, our brain links smells to people, places, and experiences.

When it comes to essential oils, certain scents trigger different parts of the brain. Studies show that scents like peppermint stimulate the part of the brain in charge of wakefulness. Lavender, on the other hand, is a great for when you’re feeling stressed out. Citrusy scents like lemon or grapefruit can make us feel happy. Need a libido boost? Rose, jasmine, Ylang Ylang, and neroli can rev up desire sensors. Nothing wrong with that, right? Try out doTERRA essential oils to tweak your mood!

New Year’s Resolutions

It’s a brand new year, folks! Time to write down our goals and dreams for 2019. Not sure where to start? From health to happiness, here are a few New Year’s resolution ideas to get you started!

Lose Weight
After saying “yes, please” to cookies, cake, and carbohydrates galore, a lot of us are anxious to get back into our pre-holidays jeans. Getting back into our fitness routines (or even starting a fitness routine) will do wonders for ditching those unwanted pounds. Need a little extra help? Try doTERRA’s Slim & Sassy® Metabolic Blend. Designed to help boost your metabolism and manage cravings, Slim & Sassy Metabolic Blend can be used as part of a weight management plan when combined with exercise and healthy eating.*

Eat Better
Food is one of many things influencing our wellness. Our diet affects our energy levels, our moods, and our overall physical health. The good news is there are lots of ways to improve your diet and incorporate more healthy foods. Instead of picking up dinner via the drive thru, find a few easy-but-healthy meals you can cook at home. Swap out fried foods for grilled options. For dessert, have an orange or a bowl of berries instead of ice cream. Small changes can make a big impact.

Reduce Stress
Many believe that stress is the root of all disease. From demanding careers to parenting toddlers, there are a lot of things in life that can cause stress. However, it’s important to manage that stress effectively. Stress can cause stomach upset, muscle pain, anxiety, depression, etc. You can manage your stress by exercising regularly, spending time with friends, getting regular sleep, and utilizing relaxation techniques. Make time for self care and relax with a soothing AromaTouch massage.

Get More Sleep
Sleep has a huge impact on our health. Inadequate sleep causes changes to ghrelin and leptin, the hormones that regulate the body’s energy balance, making the brain feel hungry or full. Even the slightest sleep deprivation (or a night of crummy sleep) can affect your mood, judgement, memory, etc. According to studies, twenty-one percent of adults reported experiencing more stress when they didn’t get adequate sleep. Try doTERRA Serenity, a blend of essential oils renowned for their ability to lessen feelings of tension and calm emotions, and support a restful sleep when used aromatically.

Here’s to another year of happiness and health!

Boost Your Immune System

Our immune system can take a beating during the holidays. The weather is generally colder. Most of us are running on fumes trying to knock out last minute holiday preparations and certainly not getting the rest our bodies need. Lots of us will also be traveling which means we’ll be exposed to all kinds of new cooties. Give your immune system some extra love with a massage.

According to studies, getting a 45-minute massage can benefit your immune system by increasing the number of lymphocytes (the white blood cells that help defend your body from disease). Massage has also been found to lower cytokine levels which reduces inflammation. Those who’ve received a massage have also seen a decrease in their levels of cortisol and vasopressin, hormones that play a role in stress and aggressive behavior.

For an additional boost, essential oils such as doTERRA OnGuard can be used as aromatherapy. doTERRA OnGuard supports healthy immune and respiratory function*, protects against environmental threats*, supports the body’s natural antioxidant defenses*, and promotes healthy circulation*.

Not only do massages feel good, but they can be good for you as well!

Hydrate Better With Oils

essential oil infused water

Water is crazy important to our body. Our brains are made up of 75% water. Our blood consists of 83% water (hence the reason we’re told to drink a bunch of water before we have blood drawn). Our bones are 25% water. Our lean muscle tissue as well as our skin – the biggest organ on our body – is 70% water.

Playing many important roles in the human body, water acts as a solvent, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, regulates temperature, lubricates joints, protects organs and tissues, and assists in flushing out toxins and waste. With how crucial water is to the overall function of our body, you’d think we’d all be chugging the stuff down!

However, the majority of the population is dehydrated. While the common recommendation is 8-12 oz glasses of water a day, we should actually be consuming half our weight in water. Yes, that is a TON of water. And you’ll need to add another 8 oz glass for every cup of coffee you drink, every cigarette you smoke, and each soda you sip. That adds up!

Passing on the H2O can lead to dehydration which can cause headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps, and a series of other body dysfunctions.

If you don’t like to the taste of water, try adding some doTERRA essential oil. Please note that not all oils are for consumption so it is uber important that you read the labels and follow the usage guides accordingly.

Here are a few varieties that go great with water:

Wild Orange
On-Guard (Boosts the immune system)
Peppermint (also good for cooling the body)

To mix: Start with 1 drop of the oil in the bottom of the glass and fill with water. Drink that cup down and refill with water. Drink down and then if you wish you can add another drop. Some people like to use 2-3 drops of an oil but everyone is different so use you judgement and listen to your body.

Be sure to drink your essential oil-infused water from a glass or steel cup. The purpose of essential oils is to break down the synthetic waste in your body and eliminate it. Drinking from a plastic cup or any other type of synthetic product slowly breaks down the product which in turn is gets released into the cup of water. YUCK!

Go Slow

Yes, you are going to pee a lot. Hello…you’re drinking HALF YOUR BODYWEIGHT in water. The good news is that you can start slow. Drinking too much water too fast can actually make you sick. Find out how much water you are drinking now and slowly add a few more glasses of water each day until you reach your goal. You can have a 32 oz container in the fridge and use that as a guide.

After a few days, you should notice some great changes in your body like an increase in energy, easier digestion, and healthier skin!
